BABBLE, Psycho-styleby June Bertini In Sexlax, we find ourselves in the office of Hildegarde the Nymphomaniac. Or Ilsa meets Dr. Ruth, Sex Therapist (Ivy Levinson) in session with the typical husband (can’t-get-it-up/wife can’t-get-enough), mid-western drawlin’, all American, Fire-’n-Brimstone couple, AKA Shirley and Don Needmore (Jo Lynn Sciarro and Jiggers Turner). Throw in a banana, a sundae, some whips, sexual pantomimes and a dress, and you have a funny performance by a fine cast. Linking this now…What happens when you take an Italian Buddhist from Bensonhurst, a second honeymoon, a cut-rate hotel room and mix it with two stuffed shirts and an up-town girl? Low Accomodations, of course. If you like a little sex, a little violence and a little streaking, then this one will make a voyeur out of you. Loaded with shock value, tan lines and pantomimes, the main characters, Angela and Marco (Rachel Isaac & Heathcliff Harris), will get a roar out of you in this fiasco of social graces. Following the appetizers, the main course was served, You Are Who You Eat—a veteran of Andy Warhol’s Factory scene—and directed by Lissa Moira, takes us behind the scenes of the writing of the great American movie. Ultra Violet does a fine job defining four incongruous characters, placing them in ordinary situations and exposing their extraordinary personalities. Getting laughs along the way, Jo Lynn Sciarro returns from Sexlax as Paulita Void—an artificially inseminated, pregnant, feminist Bhuddist with hot pink hair. She does a fine job integrating herself, with a seamless transition from homey, mid-western housewife to disgruntled feminist. Sciarro is joined by Jessica Levesque playing Rebecca Baumgold, a hedonistic drunk with a hard edge, and Lorca Peress, playing Christina Dogooder, a born-again Christian with a nutritional philosophy. |
